Earth Day

Earth Day

The central focus of Earth Day revolves around our planet, Earth.

In this era of rapid climate change, dimishing natural resources and alarming biodiversity loss, exploring innovative solutions is more critical than ever.

These solutions should aim towards regenerating our climate, protecting biodiversity, and fostering stronger global communities. It’s essential that we adopt an approach centered on Earth, ensuring that our actions consider the interconnectedness and well-being of all lifeforms and therefore result in benefiting nature rather than depleting it.

Examining the future of beauty, it transcends the natural, serving as an amplifier of the natural world, utilising abundant local resources alongside lab-grown ingredients. A local to global approach which emphasises the significance of resource efficiency, biodiversity preservation, respect for cultural and ecological harmony.

On Earth Day, Haeckels aims to spotlight the efforts of the five pioneering regenerative ideas. These initiatives represent a significant shift towards embracing innovative practices that prioritise the well-being of all species.

Green and Blue

The Bee Brick® presents a smart solution for supporting our bee population by providing an innovative nesting site for solitary bees. Resembling regular bricks in size, these bee bricks incorporate a series of narrow openings, mirroring the natural nesting spots preferred by solitary bees.

Ponda

Ponda collaborates with farmers and conservation groups to rejuvenate carbon-emitting wetlands through the cultivation of typha latifolia, a plant uniquely suited for restoring damaged wetland environments. Typha serves as an ideal, low-maintenance crop, cultivated through the paludiculture process. Among its numerous benefits, typha grows rapidly, sequestering significant carbon, fosters habitat creation, boosting biodiversity, and yields high-quality fiber for textile production.

BioPuff®, Ponda’s innovative insulation solution not only keeps you warm but also contributes to the restoration of our most precious ecosystems. This cutting-edge insulation, designed to reduce reliance on feather and synthetic fillers, is crafted from plant fibers that actively aid in wetland regeneration.

Acien

ACIEN is dedicated to a regenerative ethos, prioritizing the preservation of Earth’s resources and the promotion of biodiversity.

Each ACIEN garment is meticulously crafted to enrich the soil upon reaching the end of its lifecycle, thereby fostering a positive environmental impact. Their pieces are dyed using either plant-based dyes or GOTS-certified colors, ensuring they are completely free from harmful chemicals. Furthermore, in collaboration with scientists, their capsule collections showcase cutting-edge bacterial dyeing techniques, which consume six times less water compared to conventional synthetic methods. Additionally, their embroidery utilizes invasive species sourced from the south of Spain, hand-cut by the ACIEN team. This not only results in unique embellishment designs but also assists local farmers in reclaiming land from disruptive invasive plants.

Margent Farm

Margent, situated in Cambridgeshire, England, is a hemp farm deeply dedicated to the health of the environment. They passionately embrace organic and regenerative farming practices, nurturing the soil, air, and water in the process. Through their cultivation of hemp, Margent actively contributes to carbon capture, as hemp plants absorb carbon from the atmosphere and convert it into biomass.

One of their notable offerings is the Hemp Fibre Corrugated Sheets, designed for both exterior and interior wall cladding. These sheets are composed of hemp fibers, which not only provide durability and functionality but also play a crucial role in carbon sequestration. By locking carbon into the fibers, this product effectively prevents its release back into the atmosphere, resulting in a remarkably low-carbon footprint.

Consuming Landscapes

An immersive audio walk through the diverse farmland and soilscapes of the UK, designed to be experienced within your local large supermarket. Starting with the products lining the shelves, participants will delve into the narratives of the farmers who steward the land. Discover how various landscapes yield distinct foods and how our consumption patterns reciprocally shape these landscapes. This walk serves to underscore the absence of the land’s story within the typical supermarket experience. After all, without this narrative, how can we grasp the ecological ramifications of our shopping choices?

Embracing a holistic mindset, combined with mindful awareness, is thinking big.
