Anya Gallaccio: preserve - Turner Contemporary Gallery

Last Friday marked a special collaboration as we joined Turner Lates x Margate Radio at Turner Contemporary in Margate, where we explored the intersection of scent and art through Anya Gallaccio's exhibition 'preserve'. Drawing inspiration from her work, we developed a series of bespoke scents that offered visitors new pathways to experience the artwork through our deep understanding of natural elements and scent creation.

For this event, in the Foyle Rooms, we developed a scent installation that captured the essence of the environments within Gallaccio's work. Through careful diffusion of botanical elements, complemented by chromatic lighting and thoughtfully placed cushions, we created a space where nature and design intertwined—demonstrating our continued commitment to working with environmental elements in considered ways.

Adding another dimension to the sensory experience was Margate-based artist Clementine Blue's 'PRESERVING / NURTURING', a soundscape that resonated deeply with our ethos of local connection. Her field recordings, gathered from Kent's coastline and the northwest of France, created a sonic tapestry that perfectly aligned with our belief in celebrating local ecosystems. The composition moved between tidal pool sounds and birdsong, reflecting the natural cycles of decay and renewal that Gallaccio explores in her work.

This collaboration represents another step in our ongoing dialogue with our community and environment, showing how spaces can be transformed through thoughtful interaction with natural elements. We continue to explore these connections, finding new ways to bring nature's processes into our daily experiences.
