Community is at the heart of everything we do. We exists as an amplifier of the natural world and as a community problem solver. We are driven by trying to solve the waste problem – be that through our use of waste natural resources in our products, or presenting packaging solutions to our community that are fully recyclable or compostable.
Growing Together: Our Partnership with Windmill Community Gardens
In the heart of Thanet, we're cultivating something impactful with our friends at Windmill Community Gardens. This isn't just about composting or growing vegetables—it's about reimagining how local businesses and communities can thrive together while nurturing our planet.
Creating Circular Solutions That Matter
What began as a mission to compost our seaweed and food waste has blossomed into a restorative closed-loop system. Our vivomer packaging, instead of becoming waste, transforms into rich compost that nourishes the market garden's soil. These gardens, in turn, feed local families weekly with chemical-free, lovingly grown produce—some of which finds its way back into our nutrition products. This is a circular economy in action, where every element serves a purpose, and nothing goes to waste.
Growing Knowledge, Growing Community
We believe in sharing skills that last a lifetime. That's why we've launched an exciting pilot scheme where our team learns the art of growing, nurturing, and harvesting vegetables alongside Windmill's expert gardeners. Starting with seedlings in our V-Farms in Margate and saving seeds for future seasons, we're not just growing food but cultivating expertise and independence.
A Partnership Rooted in Purpose
Windmill Community Gardens has transformed lives since 2004, turning derelict wasteland into flourishing community spaces where families can safely grow food together. Their two one-acre sites—a community garden and a market garden—represent more than just growing spaces. They're living proof that working together can create systems that care for people while protecting our planet.
Together, we're growing more than just vegetables—we're developing a more sustainable, connected, and nourishing future for all of us.
This partnership is part of our ongoing commitment to zero waste and community empowerment.
The Thanet Coast Project —
Protecting Our Coastal Home: The Thanet Coast Project
The stretch of coastline we call home is a living, breathing ecosystem that needs our collective care. Since 2001, the Thanet Coast Project has been the guardian of these shores, working tirelessly to protect the marine life, bird populations, and unique coastal features that make our home extraordinary.
Where Community Meets Conservation
The Thanet Coast Project brings us together as caretakers of our shoreline, creating a bridge between our community and the delicate coastal ecosystems we share. Through their dedicated team and volunteer Coastal Wardens, they protect and monitor our treasured marine and bird life. They also offer opportunities for locals to become active stewards of our coast and connect our community through wildlife events and artistic celebrations.
Why This Matters to All of Us
Our coastline defines our landscape, shapes our community, influences our well-being, and holds the key to our environmental future. By supporting the Thanet Coast Project, we're preserving natural habitats and investing in a healthier, more connected future for everyone who calls Thanet home.
Be Part of the Solution
The Thanet Coast Project thrives through the support of local businesses and community members like you. Every contribution, whether volunteering, participating in events, or donating, helps protect our coastal heritage for future generations.
Our Commitment
We're proud to support the Thanet Coast Project's vital work through regular donations and ongoing collaboration. Together, we're showing how local businesses and conservation efforts can work hand in hand to protect our shared coastal home.

Community Sauna:
Where Wellness Meets Connection"We envisioned creating more than just a sauna—we wanted to build a year-round destination that brings people together and celebrates our coastline in every season. Inspired by the communal spirit of Reykjavik's saunas, we set out to create something that could unite communities all along Britain's shores." - Dom Bridges, Founder of Haeckels
Our journey began in 2014 with a dream and a Kickstarter campaign that raised over £30,000 to build our Sea Bathing Machine. Each supporter's name is permanently laser-etched on its walls—a testament to the power of community coming together. While this unique project caught the media's attention, featuring on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces and in various publications, what truly matters is how it captured the hearts of our neighbours.
A Gift for All of Us
Our Community Sauna isn't just a facility—it's a revolution in accessible wellness. Since 2018, we've been proud to offer this space free of charge, first at Margate Main Sands and now adjacent to Walpole Bay's tidal pool. We're still the UK's only free community sauna, operating daily through the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of those who choose to contribute to our running costs.
More Than a Sauna—A Social Sanctuary
Inside our walls, social barriers dissolve in the warmth of shared experience. Age, nationality, and social status fade away as conversations flow freely between strangers who often become friends. The combination of cold water therapy and the embrace of heat creates more than physical wellness—it builds bonds that extend far beyond the sauna doors.
Join Our Community
We believe coastal wellness should be accessible to everyone. While we welcome contributions through PayPal to help with rent, fuel, and maintenance, there's no obligation—our doors are open to all. Whether you're a seasoned cold water enthusiast or curious about trying something new, you'll find a warm welcome here.
Come find us on the beach. Together, we're building more than wellness—creating connections that strengthen our community.
