This soy wax candle evokes the scent of waves crashing into the Reculver sea defences, the overgrown plants and fruits of the ruined Abbey and graveyard below. Salt water, berries, flowers and wild parsley.
Burn time, approx 40 hours – 270ml
Out of stock
As waves smash into the Reculver sea defenses, below sits a ruined abbey, graveyard and wild, overgrown fields. Remnants of more recent uses are now overgrown and covered over with blackberries, raspberries and sea lavender.
The salt water spraying up onto the path leaves small puddles so that the smell of the sea is carried by the wind to mix with berries, flowers and wild parsley creating a fragrance that is fresh, but shows the history that surrounds this place in every direction. There is a feeling here of something that was once important and loved but that has now been given back to nature to heal and be washed away, into the sea.
For the first time that you burn your Haeckels candle, allow it to burn for at least two hours, or until the whole top is liquid with wax. This allows for an even burn the next time it is used.
Top: fruity, green and delicate
Heart: light, floral with slight incense
Base: sweet and warm
Mycelium is the root system of mushrooms (fungi) and is usually found underground where, tiny white hyphae weave together like threads. Within our packaging, these threads intertwine with agricultural waste such as sawdust, flax and hemp husks and are left to grow into a mould for a period of time. As the mycelium grows, it binds the waste together to form a firm structure. It is then removed from the mould and left to grow for an additional short period of time, so it takes on the lovely velvety texture. Once it has been dried, the final product is lightweight and impact resistant. After use, it can be reused, composted or planted in your garden to improve soil quality.
Our seed paper is made from recycled paper pulp mixed with wild flower seeds. For the green-fingered, place the paper on top of a pot of compost and water well. Make sure the paper has access to light and warmth and keep the soil moist. Once the seedlings have grown large enough, transfer them to your garden for the birds and bees to enjoy.
