Time To Switch Off

As we prepare to take time away from work this Christmas we feel it is time to switch off, to stop, to take a deep breath and reset our minds and prepare for a new year.

This year has been like no other at Haeckels, at times it has been incredibly challenging as we grow and at other times it has been celebratory as we begin to realise our vision for what we can create in Margate.

Over the Christmas break our shop will be open for a few days, but limited hours as we want to ensure we all get time at home with our families, friends or even just time on our own. You can find our opening times by clicking here.

We’ll be taking orders online but these will not ship until after the Christmas break. If your order is urgent please do email us on info@haeckels.co.uk and we will endeavour to help.

We want to encourage you to enjoy time away from your screens, away from the hustle and bustle of life and we’ve listed some great things to do over the next week.

We wish you a merry Christmas and hope to see lots of you in 2019.

Coastal Walks

Coastal walking is our chosen ritual on Boxing Day at Haeckels, we are blessed with an incredible home town and the sea air is full of negatively charged hydrogen ions which, by neutralising damaging free radicals, improve our ability to absorb oxygen. These negative ions also assist in balancing levels of serotonin, the happiness hormone.

We will be embarking on a coastal walk to fill our lungs with that fresh air. Our favourite route is a local one to us, The Viking Coastal Trail. This is a 32 mile route takes us through a route previously inhabited by Romans, Saxons. Charles Dickens, Vikings, JMW Turner, Van Gough and many many more.

Take this route and discover some of the locations we have created fragrances from including Reculver, Pegwell Bay, Botany Bay, Walpole Bay and Dreamland.

Favourite Podcasts

A good way to switch off and get away from the screens and the never ending inbox is audio. We really enjoy podcasts and find that listening to others, their stories and opinions teaches us so much about subjects that previously would only have been listed within impenetrable text books.

Here’s some of our favourites to check out.

Emma Gannon – CTRL ALT Delete

With over 2 million downloads since it’s first episode Emma talks to some of the most interesting people in modern culture, business and innovation. Our particular favourites are the episodes featuring Alex Loizou (founder of Trouva), Katherine Ormerod (writer of Is Social Media Ruining Your Life) and Sali Hughes.

How I Built This With Guy Raz

In this series Guy gets under the bonnet of some of the worlds most innovative companies, talks to their founders and exposes some of their biggest successes but more importantly where they failed and how they overcame these challenges.

Malcolm Galdwell – Revisionist History

A journey through the overlooked and the misunderstood. Every episode re-examines something from the past—an event, a person, an idea, even a song—and asks whether we got it right the first time. Because sometimes the past deserves a second chance.

And finally our favourite podcast series from this year, something that ignites the imagination and transports you to a different place on Earth with each episode.

Slow Radio from BBC Radio 3

An antidote to today’s frenzied world. Step back, let go, immerse yourself: it’s time to go slow. A lo-fi celebration of pure sound that takes you to Tokyo, Sherwood Forest or to a snowy Norwegian forest. This is like someone pouring honey into your ears.

Enjoy A Treatment

A perfect time to indulge yourself with a treatment and prepare of the new year. Enabling your body to relax, recover and be cared for is one of the most luxurious and peaceful experiences we can enjoy. We’ve been expanding our offer in Margate and we’re looking forward to adding some additional treatment rooms in early 2019.

We’ll be adding a treatment for those struggling with excessive screen time along with expanding our seaweed based offering. You can book into our Thalassotherapy Rooms by going to this link http://haeckels.co.uk/thalassotherapy-treatments/
